St. Paul A Cappella, our church’s semi-professional chamber choir, performs one of the most intrinsically beautiful and beloved works of the Spanish Renaissance, Tomas Luis de Victoria’s Missa Pro Defunctis, also known at the “1605 Requiem.” The one-hour program also includes Pablo Casals’ O Vos Omnes and Gregorian Pange lingua. This ambitious program will provide a meditative and deeply meaning start to our Holy Week observances. A Wine & Cookie Reception follows the performance provided by the Friends of St. Paul’s Music.

The William Baker Festival Singers is a 50-voice semi-professional chorale that has produced two dozen nationally released recordings and performed in 14 states, including Trinity Wall Street Church in New York City and the National Cathedral in Washington, DC. The Festival Singers have been lauded in glowing reviews in The Kansas City Star, Arts Beat KC, KC Metropolis, and The American Record Guide. In 2021, the Festival Singers were named 2nd-place national winners of The American Prize in Choral Performance and the Ernst Bacon Award for Service to American Music. The one-hour concert will include classical works and rousing spirituals performed by the chorus in their April tour of the Milwaukee area. Early arrival recommended for best seats. The featured work will be Randall Thompson’s The Testament of Freedom on writings of Thomas Jefferson performed by the Men of the St. Paul Choir and Friends. The Summer Singers of Lee’s Summit is a community chorus in its 9th season under the baton of Music Director Jennifer Lahasky, MME. The 2023 program includes Donald McCullough’s Holocaust Cantata, a deeply moving work commemorating that tragic event. The program will also include Kaddish for the Six Million by composer, conductor and musicologist Amy Thropp. Ms. Thropp will be in Lee’s Summit to conduct her work and to speak on the role of music in the Jewish experience.
